How PassEveryTest supports newcomer programs
PassEveryTest is a free practice site with no account and no sign-up. It is paid for by ads. It is independent: it is not a government site and it is not affiliated with any immigration or licensing office. The questions are written in plain English from the official study guides and handbooks, and each page lists its sources and the date it was checked.
- Short practice sets with an explanation after every answer.
- A mock exam based on the official test format.
- Study guides written from the official guide.
- Listen mode, which reads each question and answer aloud.
- Print this set, which makes a worksheet with an answer key.
- A mistake notebook and a study planner that stay on the learner's own device.
Always send learners to the official study guide as well. The real test is based on that guide, not on practice questions.
Citizenship tests by country
Each country has its own test and its own official guide. Some facts from official sources:
- Canada: most applicants who are 18 to 54 on the day they sign the application take the test. It can be taken in English or French, and the official guide is Discover Canada, which is free to read, download or listen to.
- United States: the naturalization test has an English part and a civics part.
- United Kingdom: you may need the Life in the UK test for citizenship or settlement. You answer 24 questions in 45 minutes, only on the official guide.
- Australia: all test questions are based on the Our Common Bond booklet, which is available in English and many community languages. The test itself is in English only.

Bilingual Listen audio for learners building English
Listen mode reads each question and its answers aloud. On pages that have a translation, it can read them in two languages, so a learner hears the English and then their own language. The voices come from the learner's own browser, so they sound different on each device.
- Translated into Chinese (Simplified), Arabic and Tagalog: the Canadian citizenship test, the US citizenship test, the Canada road signs test and the Ontario G1 test.
- Many European citizenship and driving tests, such as those for Germany, France, Spain, Italy and the Netherlands, are also in the country's own language.
- Learners can switch the page language with the language menu at the top of the page.
- Canadian Citizenship Test Practice
- US Citizenship Test Practice (Civics)
- Canada Road Signs Practice Test
- Ontario G1 Practice Test
For learners who are building English, play each question in English first. Switch to their own language only for words they do not know, then play the English again.
Printable sets for class
Every practice set has a Print this set button. It makes a worksheet with an answer key, which is useful when learners do not have devices, or for homework.
- Pair work: one learner reads the question aloud, the other answers, then they swap.
- Vocabulary: before the set, pull out key words such as Parliament, vote, right or duty and teach them.
- Speaking practice: ask learners to explain each answer in their own words.
- Review: use the mistake notebook on a learner's phone to print a revision pack of their wrong answers.
Driving knowledge tests for newcomers
Many newcomers need to pass a local knowledge test before they can drive. Rules for using a licence from another country are different in each province, state and country, so learners should check the official licensing office for their situation.
Language and job readiness courses
Free courses can support the next steps after the tests, such as workplace English, language exams and job searching.
