For: Restaurant, bar and hotel owners, managers and trainers onboarding new staff

How PassEveryTest helps with staff onboarding

PassEveryTest is a free practice site with no account and no sign-up, paid for by ads. It is independent: it is not an approved certification program and it is not affiliated with any regulator or training provider. Practice helps staff learn the rules before they take the approved course and exam, but it does not give them a certificate.

  • Practice sets with an explanation after every answer.
  • Study guides for many food handler and alcohol server programs.
  • Free staff courses for servers, kitchen crew and hotel staff.
  • Print this set, which makes a worksheet with an answer key.
  • Listen mode, which reads questions aloud for staff who prefer audio.

Alcohol server training by place

Each province, state and country sets its own rules on who must be trained. Some examples from official sources:

  • Ontario: anyone involved in the sale, service, sampling or delivery of liquor must hold a certification from an AGCO-approved course. Smart Serve is the approved program for bars and restaurants.
  • British Columbia: all licensees, managers and staff must get Serving It Right certification before working in a licensed establishment.
  • California: on-premises alcohol servers and their managers must be certified in Responsible Beverage Service within 60 days of their first day of work.
  • New South Wales: RSA training is mandatory for people who sell, serve or supply alcohol to the public.

Food handler training by place

  • Ontario: a food service premises must have at least one certified food handler or supervisor on site at all times while it is operating.
  • Texas: all food employees must complete an accredited food handler training course within 30 days of starting work.

Check with your local public health unit or regulator which food safety program they accept before staff book a course.

Free staff courses for new hires

Staff courses cover the job itself: greeting guests, safe kitchen work, cleaning rooms and handling difficult moments. Each course has lessons, quizzes and a final assessment.

Team huddles with printable sets

A short huddle before service is a good time to refresh one topic. Use Print this set to make a worksheet with an answer key.

  1. Pick one topic, such as checking ID or holding temperatures.
  2. Print a practice set and choose five to ten questions on that topic.
  3. Read each question aloud and let staff call out answers.
  4. Read the explanation and connect it to your own house rules.
  5. Post the sheet in the staff room for the rest of the week.

Staff can open the mistake notebook on their own phones to retest the questions they missed. Nothing is shared with the manager, so ask them to tell you which topics were hard.

45-minute onboarding session: safe service basics

10Talk through two real situations from your workplace, such as a guest who has had too much to drink or a fridge that is too warm.
10Staff open the right practice test on their phones and do one set alone. Show them the mistake notebook.
5Each new hire makes a study plan with the date they will take the approved course or exam.
5Hand out the staff handout and answer questions.

Frequently asked questions

Does passing a practice test give staff a certificate?

No. Only the approved program and exam give a certificate. PassEveryTest is independent practice for that exam.

Can we use it to train our staff?

Yes. Staff can use it free for their own study, and you can share links or print sets for huddles. Please do not copy the questions into your own materials or sell them.

Can managers see staff scores?

No. Results stay on each person's device. Ask staff to show their screen or tell you which topics were hard.

Which certificate does my staff member need?

It depends on the role and the place. Check the official regulator for your province, state or country. Each practice test page links to its official sources.
