Free Test Prep Kit for Libraries and Community Centres
Patrons often ask for help with a driving, citizenship, security or work safety test. This kit shows how to point them to free PassEveryTest practice, set up a display or handout, and use it safely on shared computers. It includes a 60-minute drop-in workshop plan, a patron handout and answers to common questions.
For: Public library staff, community centre staff and volunteers who help patrons find study resources
What patrons can practise for free
PassEveryTest is a free practice site with no account, no sign-up and no library card needed. It is paid for by ads. It is independent and not affiliated with any government or testing body. Questions are written from official handbooks, and each page lists its sources and the date it was checked.
Pointing patrons to the right test
- Ask which test they are taking and where. Each province, state and country has its own test.
- Open the test page for that place and show the practice sets, study guide and mock exam.
- Show the official handbook link listed in the page's sources, and check if your collection has a copy.
- Mention the study planner if they have a test date, and the mistake notebook for review.
Many official guides are free. For example, Canada's citizenship guide, Discover Canada, can be read online, downloaded or listened to, and Australia's Our Common Bond booklet is available in English and many community languages.
A display or handout for your branch
- Place the patron handout next to your driver's handbooks, citizenship guides and test prep books.
- Add a QR code that links to passeverytest.com, or to the most-asked test in your area.
- Print one practice set with Print this set and leave it out as a sample, with the answer key on the back.
- Run the display before busy times, such as spring and summer for learner drivers and boaters.
- List your next drop-in workshop date on the display.
Say "free practice tests" rather than "official practice". PassEveryTest is independent, and the official handbook is always the final word.
Computer labs and shared computers
PassEveryTest saves scores, study plans and the mistake notebook in the browser on the computer being used. On a shared computer, the next patron could see that progress. Ask patrons to do one of these:
- Open a private window: Incognito in Chrome, a private window in Firefox or InPrivate in Edge. When all private windows are closed, the browser deletes the site data from that session.
- Or clear the site's data in the browser settings before leaving.
- To keep progress, practise on their own phone or home computer instead.
- Progress in a private window is lost when it closes, so suggest printing a revision pack from the mistake notebook first.
- Listen mode reads questions aloud, so offer headphones in the lab.
- Print this set works with the lab printer for patrons who prefer paper.
If your lab software wipes the browser at the end of each session, patrons' progress is removed automatically. Let them know so they are not surprised.
Programs and partners
Libraries and community centres often host newcomer programs, youth groups and job seekers. These kits have lesson plans and handouts for those groups.
