Jägerprüfung Practice Test (Germany Hunting Exam) 2026
Before your first German hunting licence (Jagdschein) you must pass the Jägerprüfung, which has a written part, an oral-practical part and a shooting test. Each federal state (Land) runs the exam under its own rules, but federal law sets the subjects. This practice covers the common written topics: hunting law, wildlife biology, weapons law and safety rules, nature protection and game meat hygiene. It is safety and knowledge education only.

Vanliga frågor
Is the Jägerprüfung the same in every German state?
No. Federal law sets the three parts and the subjects, but each state (Land) runs the exam and sets details such as training hours, number of written questions and pass marks.
How many questions are in the written hunting exam?
It depends on the state. Bavaria uses 100 multiple-choice questions in 100 minutes, and you fail with more than 25 wrong or missing answers. Check your state's exam regulations.
How old must I be to hunt in Germany?
From 16 you can get a youth hunting licence (Jugendjagdschein) and hunt only with an experienced adult. People aged 16 and 17 can only get the youth licence, so a full licence starts at 18. Some states let you sit the exam earlier; Bavaria admits candidates from 15.
Can a foreigner get a German hunting licence?
Yes, but the authority may refuse a licence to non-Germans or to people without three years' residence in Germany. Exceptions to the exam can be granted for foreign licences.
Does this practice test cover the shooting test?
No. It covers the written knowledge, including the official safety rules. The shooting test and weapon handling must be learned in an approved course with qualified instructors.
