  2. Pregunta 2 de 15

    Is the Speaking test recorded?
    Ver respuesta

Respuesta: A. Yes, it is recorded

The official Speaking page says the Speaking test is recorded.

  3. Pregunta 3 de 15

What kind of questions does the examiner ask in Part 1?

Part 1 lasts 4–5 minutes. The whole Speaking test takes 11–14 minutes.

  5. Pregunta 5 de 15

How much time do you get to prepare in Part 2?
    Ver respuesta

    Respuesta: A. One minute

In Part 2 you get a task card and one minute to prepare. The examiner gives you a pencil and paper for notes.

  6. Pregunta 6 de 15

How long should you speak for in Part 2?
    Ver respuesta

    Respuesta: B. About two minutes

You should speak for about two minutes. The examiner will stop you when the time is up.

Respuesta: C. The examiner stops you and may ask one or two follow-up questions

The examiner stops you after the time is up and may ask one or two follow-up questions. Part 3 then follows.

    Ver respuesta

Respuesta: C. A discussion of wider, more abstract issues linked to the Part 2 topic

Part 3 (4–5 minutes) is a discussion with the examiner about wider issues connected to the Part 2 topic.

  9. Pregunta 9 de 15

Which of these is one of the four Speaking assessment criteria?
    Ver respuesta

    Respuesta: D. Pronunciation

The four Speaking criteria are Fluency and coherence, Lexical resource, Grammatical range and accuracy, and Pronunciation. Task achievement is a Writing criterion.

What does "Fluency and coherence" mean in the Speaking test?
    Ver respuesta

Respuesta: A. Speaking at a normal speed and linking ideas logically

Fluency and coherence is about speaking at a normal speed with limited hesitation, putting ideas in a logical order and using linking words.

  11. Pregunta 11 de 15

You forget the word "ladder" while speaking. What is the best thing to do?
    Ver respuesta

Respuesta: B. Describe it, e.g. "the thing you climb to reach high places"

Lexical resource includes the ability to paraphrase when you do not know a word. Keep talking and describe the thing.

  12. Pregunta 12 de 15

The examiner asks: "Do you work or are you a student?" Which answer is best?
    Ver respuesta

Respuesta: A. I work. I'm a nurse in Leeds, and I mostly do night shifts, which I quite enjoy.

A good Part 1 answer answers the question directly and adds a detail or reason. One word is too short, and a memorised speech is off the topic.

  13. Pregunta 13 de 15

Listen. What is the main weakness in the candidate's answer?
Escucha y luego responde. La transcripción aparece después de responder.

The candidate answers the question but says only three words. Add a detail or reason, for example who you play with and why you enjoy it.

Examiner: Do you think people will read fewer printed books in the future?
Candidate: I suppose that's quite likely, because more and more people read on their phones. Having said that, I think printed books for children will probably stay popular, since parents like reading with their kids.

    Ver respuesta

Respuesta: C. It gives an opinion, a reason and a contrast

The candidate says what is likely, gives a reason ("because…"), and adds a contrast ("Having said that…"). This is the kind of extended answer Part 3 needs.
