Preguntas frecuentes

Do I need a licence to work as a mall security guard?

Alberta requires approved basic security training before it issues that licence. This course is background knowledge only and does not replace licence training.

Can mall security ban someone from the mall?

A mall is private property. Under trespass laws such as Ontario's Trespass to Property Act, the occupier, often through security, can tell a person they are not allowed on the premises. If the person refuses to leave, call police.

Are service animals allowed everywhere in a mall?

Service animals are welcome in the areas open to the public. Alberta lets qualified service dog teams go wherever the public may go, but not into areas like food preparation spaces. In Ontario, you may ask for documentation only when the animal is not easy to identify.

Can I give mall video to the police?

Federal privacy guidelines say video may be disclosed to police, for example after a car break-in. Follow your site's procedure and record what you released, to whom and when.
