Questionário temático 1: How logical reasoning tests work
-
Pergunta 1 de 15
Mostrar resposta
Resposta: C. Treat the statements as true and use only them
Logical reasoning tests check whether a conclusion follows from the statements. Accept the statements as true, even if they seem odd, and do not add outside knowledge.
-
Pergunta 2 de 15
Mostrar resposta
Resposta: B. It must be true whenever the statements are true
A valid deductive conclusion follows necessarily: if the statements are true, the conclusion cannot be false.
-
Pergunta 3 de 15
Mostrar resposta
Resposta: C. Finding a rule from several examples and using it on a new case
Inductive reasoning moves from examples to a general rule, as in number series and table patterns. The rule is likely, not guaranteed, so test it on every example.
-
Pergunta 4 de 15
Mostrar resposta
Resposta: C. Reject it, because it is not certain
"Must be true" means true in every arrangement that fits the statements. An option that is only possible does not meet that test.
-
Pergunta 5 de 15
Mostrar resposta
Resposta: B. 45 seconds
18 minutes = 1,080 seconds, and 1,080 ÷ 24 = 45 seconds. A common mistake is reading 18 ÷ 24 = 0.75 minutes as 75 seconds.
-
Pergunta 6 de 15
Mostrar resposta
Resposta: D. Pick your best answer, mark it for review if you can, and move on
Time spent on one hard question is time lost on easier ones. Make your best choice, mark it if the test allows, and come back if time is left.
-
Pergunta 7 de 15
Mostrar resposta
Resposta: D. Nothing; marking a question does not affect your score
The Public Service Commission says the "Mark for Review" box is only a reminder to come back to a question, and marking does not influence your score.
-
Pergunta 8 de 15
Mostrar resposta
Resposta: B. Rough paper and pencils
The Public Service Commission says rough paper and pencils are provided. Use them to sketch orders, seating plans and Venn diagrams.
-
Pergunta 9 de 15
Mostrar resposta
Resposta: C. Draw the positions and fill in the fixed facts first
Sketch the slots (a line or a circle) and place anything that is fixed, such as "Gus is first". Then add the clues that link people together.
-
Pergunta 10 de 15
Mostrar resposta
Resposta: D. When the statements allow more than one answer to the question
Choose "cannot be determined" only after checking that the statements fit at least two different answers. If only one answer fits, pick it.
-
Pergunta 11 de 15
Mostrar resposta
Resposta: C. One possible case where the statements are true and the conclusion is false
This is called a counterexample. If the statements can all be true while the conclusion is false, the argument is not valid.
-
Pergunta 12 de 15
Mostrar resposta
Resposta: B. At least one, and possibly all
"Some A are B" only tells you at least one A is B. It does not say that some A are not B.
-
Pergunta 13 de 15
Mostrar resposta
Resposta: B. Dev holds a licence
The conclusion is the claim the other statements support. Words like "so" and "therefore" often come just before it.
-
Pergunta 14 de 15
Mostrar resposta
Resposta: B. Check that it fits every number given in the series
Several rules can fit the first few terms. A rule found by inductive reasoning must fit every example given before you trust it.
-
Pergunta 15 de 15
Mostrar resposta
Resposta: A. Test each remaining option against every statement
Elimination narrows the field, but only checking each remaining option against all the statements tells you which one is right.

O que saber antes do exame
- The Government of Canada's Skills for Success model describes problem solving as the ability to identify and analyse problems, propose solutions and make decisions.
- The Skills for Success problem-solving skill includes seeking patterns, making connections across information and identifying possible cause-and-effect links.
- Skills for Success also lists logical thinking and "if-then" thinking as part of addressing a problem.
- A valid deductive argument has a form such that if its premises are true, its conclusion must be true; an inductive argument makes its conclusion probable.
- The Public Service Commission of Canada advises test takers to read questions carefully, manage their time and leave time to review their answers.
- In the Public Service Commission's online tests, a timer shows the time left, the test closes when time is up, and marking a question for review does not affect your score.
- Rough paper and pencils are provided in the Public Service Commission's supervised online tests.
- Accommodation measures during Government of Canada testing are tailored to the candidate's situation; tell the person who invites you as soon as possible.
Perguntas frequentes
What is the Certificate of Completion, and what is it not?
It shows that you finished this course and scored at least 80% on the final assessment. It is not an accredited qualification, a government or employer certification, or a result from any test publisher.
Are these questions from real employer tests?
No. Every question was written for this course to practise the same kinds of skills. Real tests differ between employers, so read your invitation and the instructions carefully.
How does the final assessment work?
It has 30 questions drawn at random from the course question bank, with a 30-minute time limit. You need 80% to pass, and each attempt gives a new mix of questions.
Do I need to study formal logic first?
No. The lessons teach everything the questions use: alphabet positions, simple diagrams, if-then rules and how to test a pattern. Practice and a steady method matter most.
Does this course cover abstract reasoning with pictures?
Patterns are described in words and tables rather than shown as pictures. The skills are the same: find what changes, what stays the same, and test the rule on every example.
How should I practise?
Read one lesson, take its untimed topic quiz and read the explanations for anything you got wrong. When you score well on all six topics, try the timed final assessment.
