  1. Domanda 1 di 25

In Alberta's working-alone rules, when is a worker considered to be working alone?
    Mostra la risposta

Risposta: D. When they work by themselves and help is not readily available

Alberta's guidance says both conditions must be met: the worker is alone and assistance is not readily available.

  2. Domanda 2 di 25

Alberta looks at three factors to decide whether help is 'readily available'. Which set is correct?
    Mostra la risposta

Risposta: A. Awareness, willingness and timeliness

Help is readily available only if others will know you need help, will reasonably help, and can arrive in a reasonable time.

  3. Domanda 3 di 25

In Alberta, what must an employer do if a radio or phone will not work at a remote site?
    Mostra la risposta

Risposta: D. Visit the worker or have the worker check in at suitable intervals

If an effective electronic means of communication is not practicable, the employer must visit the worker or make sure the worker checks in at intervals suited to the hazards.

  4. Domanda 4 di 25

Under B.C.'s OHS Regulation, when must a lone worker be checked on in addition to the regular intervals?
    Mostra la risposta

Risposta: D. At the end of the shift

Section 4.21 requires checks at set intervals and a check at the end of the work shift, with the results recorded.

  5. Domanda 5 di 25

Under B.C.'s working-alone rules, how should the time between check-ins be set for high-risk work?
    Mostra la risposta

Risposta: A. Shorter intervals than for low-risk work

The regulation notes that higher-risk work needs shorter intervals between checks.

  6. Domanda 6 di 25

Which item does CCOHS suggest for a lone worker's check-in plan?
    Mostra la risposta

Risposta: C. An agreed code word that signals the worker needs help

CCOHS suggests a daily work plan, a main and backup contact, set check-in times, a written log, and a code word that means help is needed.

  7. Domanda 7 di 25

Cell service at a remote site is unreliable. Which is a suitable way to stay in contact?
    Mostra la risposta

Risposta: B. A satellite device or two-way radio

CCOHS lists two-way radios, satellite technology, GPS and automated duress devices as options where cell service is unreliable.

  8. Domanda 8 di 25

Under Alberta's Critical Infrastructure Defence Act, which of these is listed as essential infrastructure?
    Mostra la risposta

Risposta: A. Oil and gas production sites and pipelines

The Act lists pipelines, oil and gas sites, oil sands sites, mines, power plants, railways, highways and other facilities as essential infrastructure.

  9. Domanda 9 di 25

Under Alberta's Critical Infrastructure Defence Act, which act is an offence?
    Mostra la risposta

Risposta: C. Wilfully entering essential infrastructure without lawful right, justification or excuse

The Act makes it an offence to wilfully enter, damage or interfere with essential infrastructure without lawful right, justification or excuse.

  10. Domanda 10 di 25

Under Alberta's Critical Infrastructure Defence Act, who may arrest a person without a warrant for an offence under the Act?
    Mostra la risposta

    Risposta: B. A peace officer

Section 4 gives the power to arrest without a warrant to a peace officer. A guard's role is to observe, record and call police.

  11. Domanda 11 di 25

A vehicle arrives at a remote site gate with no work order or appointment. What should the guard do?
    Mostra la risposta

Risposta: D. Keep the gate closed, confirm with the site contact and log the vehicle

Access control at remote sites means verifying every visit with the site contact and recording the vehicle, driver and time.

  12. Domanda 12 di 25

What does hydrogen sulfide (H2S) smell like at low levels?
    Mostra la risposta

    Risposta: C. Rotten eggs

CCOHS describes the smell of H2S as rotten eggs. At high levels it can smell sickly sweet.

  13. Domanda 13 di 25

Why can't you rely on your sense of smell to detect H2S?
    Mostra la risposta

Risposta: B. H2S can dull your sense of smell, so the odour may seem to disappear

H2S can dull the sense of smell, so a strong odour can fade while the gas is still there. Use detectors and follow site rules.

  14. Domanda 14 di 25

Where does H2S tend to build up?
    Mostra la risposta

Risposta: D. In low-lying areas and confined spaces

CCOHS warns that H2S can collect in hazardous amounts in low-lying areas, especially confined spaces.

  15. Domanda 15 di 25

A worker collapses near a tank and you suspect H2S. What should you do?
    Mostra la risposta

Risposta: A. Stay out, raise the alarm and call trained rescuers

CCOHS says rescuers must protect themselves first. H2S can also come off a victim's clothes and breath, so only trained people with proper equipment should go in.

  16. Domanda 16 di 25

Which is usually the first sign of frostbite?
    Mostra la risposta

    Risposta: C. Numbness

CCOHS says numbness is usually the first symptom. Skin may look waxy and feel cold and hard.

  17. Domanda 17 di 25

What is the right first aid for frostbitten fingers?
    Mostra la risposta

Risposta: A. Warm them gently, for example in the armpits, and do not rub them

CCOHS advises gentle warming, no rubbing, no snow, no direct heat and no alcohol. Get medical help.

  18. Domanda 18 di 25

A co-worker is shivering, slurring words and acting confused in the cold. What could this be?
    Mostra la risposta

    Risposta: C. Mild hypothermia

CCOHS lists shivering, poor judgement, slurred speech and loss of coordination as signs of mild hypothermia. People often do not notice it in themselves.

  19. Domanda 19 di 25

How should a person with hypothermia be warmed?
    Mostra la risposta

Risposta: B. Gently, focusing on the chest, armpits and groin, and keep them lying down

CCOHS says to move the person out of the cold, keep them lying down, handle them gently and warm the upper body slowly.

  20. Domanda 20 di 25

You see a bear that is aware of you at a distance. What should you do?
    Mostra la risposta

Risposta: D. Stay calm, speak firmly, and back away slowly
