  1. Question 1 of 24

Car A and car B reach this intersection at the same time. There are no signs or signals, and car B is on car A's right. Who should go first?
No signs or signals, two cars arrive togetherAB
    Show answer

Answer: C. Car B, because it is on car A's right

When two vehicles arrive at the same time and there are no signs or signals, yield to the vehicle on your right. Car B is on car A's right, so car B goes first.

  2. Question 2 of 24

Cars A and B stopped at the same time at this four-way stop. Car A is on car B's right. Who should go first?
Four-way stop, two cars stop togetherAB
    Show answer

Answer: B. Car A, because it is on car B's right

At a four-way stop, stop first, then follow the normal rule: if you arrive together, yield to the vehicle on your right. Car A is on car B's right, so car A goes first.

  3. Question 3 of 24

Cars A, B and C have all stopped at this four-way stop. Car C stopped first, then car A, then car B. Who should go first?
    Four-way stop, three carsABC
    Show answer

Answer: D. Car C, because it stopped first

The vehicle that arrives at the intersection first has the right-of-way. At a four-way stop, drivers go in the order they stopped, so car C goes first.

  4. Question 4 of 24

There are no signs at this T-intersection. Car A is on the side road and wants to turn left. Car B is on the through road. Who has the right-of-way?
    T-intersection with no signsAB
    Show answer

Answer: D. Car B, because it is on the through road

At a T-intersection, vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians on the through road have the right-of-way. Car A must wait until car B has passed.

  5. Question 5 of 24

Both cars have a green light. Car A wants to turn left. Car B is coming straight through from the other direction and is close. What should car A do?
Left turn on a green lightAB
    Show answer

Answer: B. Wait for car B to pass, then turn when it is safe

When you turn left, give the right-of-way to any approaching vehicle that is close enough to be dangerous. A green light does not let car A turn in front of car B.

  6. Question 6 of 24

Car A is waiting to enter the roundabout. Car B is already in the roundabout and is coming toward car A's entry. What should car A do?
    Entering a roundaboutAB
    Show answer

Pedestrian crossing at a corner with no painted linesAP
    Show answer

Answer: B. Wait until P has finished crossing, then go when it is safe

A crosswalk can be marked with lines or unmarked, and pedestrians have the right-of-way in both. Car A must wait for P to finish crossing.

  8. Question 8 of 24

Car A wants to turn right. Pedestrian P is blind, walks with a guide dog, and is in the crosswalk in car A's path. What should car A do?
    Pedestrian with a guide dogAP
    Show answer

Answer: B. Stop and wait quietly until P has finished crossing

Pedestrians who use a guide dog or a white cane have the right-of-way at all times. Wait for them, do not honk at them, and do not stop in the middle of the crosswalk.

Car A is already in the middle of the intersection when ambulance B comes with its siren on and red lights flashing. What should car A do?
Ambulance while you are in the intersectionAB
    Show answer

This highway has a barrier in the middle and two lanes each way. School bus B is stopped on the other side with its red lights flashing. Must car A stop?
School bus on the other side of a divided highwayAB
    Show answer

Answer: C. No. Car A does not have to stop, but should drive with care

You do not need to stop for a school bus that is on the other side of a divided or multilane highway (two or more lanes in each direction). Car A should still drive with care.

  13. Question 13 of 24

Police car B is stopped on the right shoulder with its emergency lights flashing. Car A is in the right lane coming up to it, and the left lane is clear. What should car A do?
Police car stopped on the shoulderAB
    Show answer

Answer: B. Move over into the left lane when it is safe, and slow down

Right turn on red with a pedestrianAP
    Show answer

Answer: C. Stop fully at the limit line, let P finish crossing, then turn when it is safe

    Show answer

Answer: B. Car B, because traffic already on the freeway has the right-of-way

  16. Question 16 of 24

Car A is driving past a row of parked cars. The driver of parked car B has opened the driver's door. What should car A do?

Truck making a wide right turnBA
    Show answer

Answer: D. Stay back and let the truck finish its turn, because it needs extra room

Car A is in the left lane, beside the back half of truck B. The driver of car A cannot see the truck's side mirrors. What does this mean?
    Car beside a large truckBA
    Show answer

Answer: D. The truck driver cannot see car A, so car A should pass or drop back

What to know before the test

  • At an intersection with no signs or signals, the first vehicle to arrive goes first. If two arrive together, yield to the one on your right.
  • You may turn right on a red light after a full stop unless a NO TURN ON RED sign is posted. You may not turn at a red arrow.
  • Stop from either direction for a school bus with flashing red lights. You do not stop if the bus is across a divided or multilane highway.
  • If you cannot change lanes to pass a bicyclist, leave at least 3 feet of space. If you cannot give 3 feet, do not pass yet.
  • Pedestrians using a guide dog or a white cane have the right-of-way at all times.
