Data Centre Security Course 2026
This course is for security guards at data centres, server rooms and other sites with critical computer equipment. It covers security zones, access cards and escorts, server room safeguards, storage media, battery room hazards and incident reporting. Provinces such as Alberta and British Columbia require guards to hold a security licence; this course is background knowledge only and does not replace that training.

Was Sie vor der Prüfung wissen sollten
- Government of Canada guidance places a server room in at least an Operations Zone for Protected A and B data, and higher for Secret or Top Secret.
- Server room walls should reach the slab above; walls that stop at a suspended ceiling do not meet the RCMP guide.
- RCMP guidance says visitors should leave a valid government-issued photo ID with security before they get an access card.
- Deleted data can often still be recovered, so storage media must be sanitized and tracked until disposal.
- Charging lead-acid backup batteries can give off explosive hydrogen gas, so keep heat, flames and sparks away.
Häufig gestellte Fragen
Do I need a licence to work as a guard at a data centre?
Yes. Provinces such as Alberta and British Columbia require security guards to be licensed, which means approved training and, in Alberta, a provincial exam. This course is background knowledge only and does not replace that training.
Do private data centres have to follow the RCMP security zone guide?
The guide is written for Government of Canada facilities. Private sites set their own rules, but many use the same idea of layers. Always follow your site's post orders.
What should I do if someone without a visible badge is in a restricted area?
Challenge them politely, check their identity and authorization, and follow your post orders. Report anything that does not add up.
Who do I tell about a cyber incident?
Follow your post orders, which usually means your supervisor and the site's IT security team. Organizations can report to the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security online; in an emergency, contact local police.
Ist die Bescheinigung akkreditiert oder offiziell anerkannt?
Nein.
