  • The B theory test is translated into 15 languages, including English, and you can apply to take it with an interpreter.
  • The theory test costs 420 SEK on weekdays and 520 SEK after 18:00 and at weekends. Cancel at least 24 hours before to get the fee back.
  • You can get a category B licence at 18 and practise from 16 with a learner's permit (körkortstillstånd), which is valid for five years.
  • New drivers have a two-year probationary period (prövotid). If the licence is revoked for something that happened then, you need a new permit and new tests.

How long is the theory test pass valid?

A pass on or after 19 August 2026 is valid for one year. Passes from before that date are valid for four months. You must pass the driving test within the validity period.

What do I need before I can book the theory test?

You need a valid learner's permit (körkortstillstånd) from Transportstyrelsen, and you must have completed both parts of the risk training before the test day.

Can I drive in Sweden on my foreign licence?

A valid EU/EEA licence can be used while it is valid in the country that issued it. Most other licences stop being valid once you have been registered as living in Sweden for more than one year.
