常见问题
Can I be fired for refusing unsafe work?
Not for a proper refusal. Federal and provincial laws, such as Canada Labour Code s. 147 and Ontario OHS Act s. 50, forbid reprisals against workers who use their safety rights.
How do I refuse unsafe work?
Stop the task and tell your supervisor or employer right away what you are refusing and why. The employer investigates. If you still believe there is danger, the government safety regulator is called in.
Does this course replace Ontario's mandatory awareness training?
No. Ontario Regulation 297/13 requires basic health and safety awareness training, and the province's Worker Health and Safety Awareness in Four Steps program meets it. This course is background knowledge only.
What should I do if I am hurt at work?
Get first aid or medical care, tell your employer as soon as it is safe, and report the injury to your province's workers' compensation board, such as WorkSafeBC or the WSIB in Ontario.
