- Under the Canadian Human Rights Act, the prohibited grounds of discrimination are race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status, family status, genetic characteristics, disability, and a pardoned or record-suspended conviction.
- The Canadian Human Rights Commission handles complaints about federally regulated employers, such as banks, airlines and federal departments. Complaints about stores, restaurants and other provincially regulated employers go to the provincial or territorial human rights agency.
- Employers may ask whether you are legally entitled to work in Canada, but they should not ask where you were born.

- The Canadian Human Rights Commission says you should file a complaint within 12 months of the incident, although it can make exceptions in certain circumstances.
- The Ontario Human Rights Commission says a strict requirement for "Canadian experience" is discrimination on its face and can be used only in very limited circumstances.
- Job Bank, a Government of Canada website, has a wage search for comparing pay by occupation and location, which helps you research a fair salary range.
常见问题
What certificate do I get, and what is it not?
If you score 80% or more on the final assessment, you can download a certificate of completion for this course. It shows you finished a general skills course. It is not an accredited qualification, an employer or government certification, or a promise of a job.
How does the final assessment work?
It has 30 questions picked at random from the course's question bank, and you have 30 minutes. You get a new mix of questions each time you try. The topic quizzes are untimed and show an explanation after each answer.
Is this course only for one kind of job?
No. The lessons cover skills for any interview, and Lesson 3 has practice for retail, hospitality, security, office, warehouse and healthcare support jobs.
I am new to Canada. Will this course help me?
Yes. It explains common Canadian interview styles such as behavioural questions, what employers may and may not ask, and how to talk about experience you gained in other countries.
Does this course give legal advice about discrimination?
No. Lesson 6 explains human rights basics in general terms. For a specific situation, contact the Canadian Human Rights Commission for federally regulated employers, or your provincial or territorial human rights agency for other employers.
