Vanliga frågor
Should I use the word "Aboriginal" or "Indigenous"?
"Aboriginal" is the term in the Constitution, but "Indigenous" is more common today. The best choice is the name a person or nation uses for themselves, such as Cree, Inuk or Métis.
Is smudging allowed in workplaces?
Many employers allow it as a spiritual practice and plan for it with a designated space and fire safety steps. Follow your site's policy and ask your supervisor if there is none.
Can I search a medicine bundle or other sacred item?
If a check is needed, do not handle the item yourself. Ask the owner to open, show or move it. Follow your site's search policy.
Why does this matter for security work?
Guards often deal with the public in authority roles. Knowing the history and avoiding stereotypes helps you build trust, prevent complaints and treat everyone fairly.
