Temaquiz 1: Stepping into the supervisor role
-
Fråga 1 av 15
Visa svar
Svar: B. Being responsible for the team's work and safety, not only your own
A supervisor gets work done through other people and is responsible for the team's results and safety.
-
Fråga 2 av 15
Visa svar
Svar: C. A shift lead who directs other workers, whatever the job title
Alberta describes a supervisor as a person in charge of a work site or with authority over one or more workers. The title does not matter.
-

Visa svar
Svar: B. The employer's
CCOHS explains that supervisors act on behalf of the employer and carry out the employer's duties for the work they direct.
-
Fråga 4 av 15
Visa svar
Svar: A. Meet each person, explain your role and ask what helps them work well
Talking one-on-one, explaining your role and listening builds trust. Big changes on day one and favouritism damage it.
-
Fråga 5 av 15
Visa svar
Svar: A. A cause of workplace stress
CCOHS names unclear job expectations and poor communication among the causes of stress, and advises being clear about expectations.
-
Fråga 6 av 15
Visa svar
Svar: A. Recognize people's good work and skills
CCOHS lists little recognition for good work as a stress cause and advises valuing and recognizing people's results and skills.
-
Fråga 7 av 15
Visa svar
Svar: A. What to do, why it matters, the deadline and the standard expected
Clear delegation covers what, why, when and how well. Leaving these out leads to mistakes and rework.
-
Fråga 8 av 15
Visa svar
Svar: C. You, as the supervisor who assigned it
Delegating hands over the task, not your responsibility. You still follow up to make sure it is done right.
-
Fråga 9 av 15
Visa svar
Svar: B. The same way you would handle it for anyone else
CCOHS advises treating all workers in a fair and respectful manner. Fair means the same standard for everyone.
-
Fråga 10 av 15
Visa svar
Svar: A. Say you will check, and pass the request to the manager quickly
Know your limits of authority. When a request is outside them, pass it to the person who can decide, and do it promptly.
-
Fråga 11 av 15
Visa svar
Svar: D. Keep it confidential and refer them to the channel your manager named
Information shared with you in confidence stays confidential. Do not guess or leak details; send questions to the proper channel.
-
Fråga 12 av 15
Visa svar
Svar: A. Your limits of authority: what you decide and what you pass on
Knowing what you can decide alone, and what must go to your manager or human resources, prevents mistakes and conflict.
-
Fråga 13 av 15
Visa svar
Svar: B. Wear a vest too, because the team copies what you do
Supervisors must make sure workers use required protective equipment, and leading by example is the best way to do it.
-
Fråga 14 av 15
Visa svar
Svar: A. Check the post orders and policy, and escalate before changing duties
Post orders set the guards' duties. A change requested by the client should go to your manager before guards are told to act.
-
Fråga 15 av 15
Visa svar
Svar: B. Listen to their reasons, explain the change and consider their ideas
CCOHS advises involving workers in decisions. Listening and explaining builds support, and their ideas may improve the procedure.

Bra att veta före provet
- In Alberta, every supervisor must advise workers of all known or reasonably foreseeable hazards in their work area and report unsafe acts or conditions to the employer.
- In Alberta, a shift over 5 hours needs a 30-minute break, and a shift of 10 hours or more needs two. A break must be paid if the employer restricts what the worker can do.
- Alberta overtime is all hours over 8 a day or 44 a week, whichever is greater, paid at least 1.5 times the regular wage.
- Ontario overtime starts after 44 hours in a work week, and there is no daily overtime by default.
- In federally regulated workplaces, employers must give a written schedule at least 96 hours ahead and 24 hours' written notice of a shift change, except in certain urgent situations.
- In Alberta, harassment can be a single incident or repeated incidents, but reasonable conduct by a supervisor in managing workers is not harassment.
- CCOHS says the purpose of an incident investigation is to find the facts that lead to corrective action, not to find fault.
- CCOHS describes safety talks as short meetings of about 5 minutes and advises keeping a record of the topic, worker feedback and attendance.
