Perguntas frequentes
Do security guards need a licence in Nunavut?
The federal Job Bank lists no security licensing body for Nunavut, unlike most provinces. Ask your employer whether your contract or site has its own requirements.
Does Nunavut have a trespass act like Ontario's?
Ontario's and Alberta's acts do not apply in Nunavut, and Nunavut did not inherit a general trespass act from the Northwest Territories. Guards rely mainly on the Criminal Code, such as sections 35, 177 and 494.
Can a guard remove people from public land?
No. Under the Commissioner's Land Act, removal needs a judge's order or warrant, carried out by the Sheriff, a bailiff or the RCMP.
What must I do after making an arrest in Nunavut?
Deliver the person to a peace officer forthwith under Criminal Code s. 494(3), which in practice means calling the RCMP right away.
