There are 40 multiple-choice questions and you have one hour. The pass mark is 70%, which is 28 correct answers.
Does a personal licence expire?
No. In England and Wales a personal licence stays valid unless it is surrendered, suspended, revoked or forfeited. Renewals were removed by the Deregulation Act 2015.
Do I need a personal licence to work behind a bar?
No. Every sale must be made or authorised by a personal licence holder, so bar staff can sell alcohol under that authority without their own licence.
Who can apply for a personal licence?
You must be 18 or over, hold an accredited licensing qualification, have the right to work in the UK, and not have forfeited a licence in the last five years. The police may object if you have unspent relevant offences.
Is the personal licence the same in Scotland?
No. Scotland uses the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005, with its own qualification. A Scottish personal licence lasts 10 years and needs refresher training every 5 years.
