Domande frequenti
Is the PCOC the same as a boating licence?
People often call it a boating licence, but the Pleasure Craft Operator Card is proof that the operator is competent. The pleasure craft licence is a separate document that identifies the boat.
How many questions are on the PCOC test, and what is the pass mark?
The accredited test has 36 questions. You need 75%, which is 27 correct answers.
Does the Pleasure Craft Operator Card expire?
No. The regulations do not set an expiry date for the card, so you do not need to renew it.
Where do I take the PCOC test?
With a course provider accredited by Transport Canada. The provider gives the supervised test and issues your card if you pass.
Do visitors to Canada need a PCOC?
A non-resident operating their own boat in Canada for less than 45 consecutive days does not need Canadian proof of competency, but must carry proof of residency. Non-residents can also use proof that meets their home state or country's rules.
How old do you have to be to drive a personal watercraft in Canada?
At least 16. People under 16 may not operate a PWC, even with an adult on board.
