How often must a lone worker check in under Alberta law?
Alberta does not set one number for every job. The employer must contact the worker at regular intervals that suit the hazards found in the hazard assessment.
Can I refuse work in Alberta if I feel unsafe working alone?
You can refuse work that you reasonably believe involves an undue hazard, meaning a serious and immediate threat. Tell your employer right away, and call the OHS Contact Centre if it is not fixed.
Who do I report a workplace injury to in Alberta?
Tell your employer first. Your employer reports to WCB-Alberta within 72 hours of becoming aware, and serious incidents such as a hospital admission must also be reported to OHS as soon as possible.
Does my employer need a violence and harassment plan?
Yes. Every Alberta employer must develop and implement a violence and harassment prevention plan under Part 27 of the OHS Code.
