WA Security Licence Test Practice 2026

Practise for Western Australia's Security Competency Test, which security officers and crowd controllers must pass after the Certificate II in Security Operations and before applying for a licence. The real test is written: short answers and a workplace scenario in 45 minutes, with 75% needed to pass. These multiple-choice sets check the same knowledge, starting with WA's own licensing rules.

  • The test has 10 short answer questions and a workplace scenario with four related questions. It is marked out of 40, and you need at least 30 marks (75%) in 45 minutes.
  • Since 1 June 2026, the test has been run by FAPSTC on behalf of WA Police. Results are usually emailed the day after the test.
  • From 1 January 2026, only training completed in WA with a WA Police-approved RTO is accepted for licensing.
  • After passing, you have 6 months to submit your licence application.
  • Crowd controllers may not carry any weapon while doing crowd control work. Security officers may carry firearms or batons only with an approved endorsement.
  • Licensing is governed by the Security and Related Activities (Control) Act 1996 and Regulations 1997.

Is the WA Security Competency Test multiple choice?

No. It uses written responses only: 10 short answer questions and a workplace scenario with four questions. This practice test is multiple choice to check your knowledge, so also practise writing short answers and incident reports.

What is the pass mark?

At least 30 out of 40 marks (75%). You have 45 minutes.

What if I fail?

Book another test. After two unsuccessful attempts your training provider is notified. After a third, you need refresher training at your own cost and must wait one month before rebooking.

How much does the test cost?

The test website lists $70 plus GST per test. Check the booking site for the current fee.

Do security officers sit the WA pre-licence test?

No. The open-book pre-licence tests are for agent licences, such as security agent and crowd control agent, and need 90% to pass.

Can I use training from another state?

From 1 January 2026, WA only accepts training completed in WA with a WA Police-approved RTO. Holders of an interstate licence can apply under mutual recognition instead.
