Sweden Citizenship Test Practice (Society Test) 2026
Since 6 June 2026, most adults applying for Swedish citizenship must show basic knowledge of Swedish society and of the Swedish language. If you cannot show it through school grades, you may be asked to take the society test, which has multiple-choice questions in Swedish. These original practice questions in English follow the topics of the official study material, Sverige i fokus, plus the main citizenship rules.

Perguntas frequentes
Is there a citizenship test in Sweden now?
Yes, for society knowledge. Since 6 June 2026 adults aged 16 to 66 must show basic knowledge of Swedish society, and the first society test was held in August 2026. Passing grades in social studies from school or Komvux can be used instead.
How many questions are on the Swedish society test and what is the pass mark?
UHR has not yet published the number of questions, the time limit or the pass mark for the next test. It has said the questions are multiple choice with four options and one correct answer. Our practice sets have 25 questions and no official pass mark.
Can I take the Swedish citizenship test in English?
No. The society test is in Swedish and written on paper. The official study material, Sverige i fokus, is also in Swedish, with free audio files for each chapter.
Do I also need a Swedish language test?
You must show Swedish at level B1 for reading and listening and A2 for speaking and writing. The new language test may be introduced later than planned, so for now you can use grades from school, SFI, Komvux or a test such as Tisus.
How long must I live in Sweden before I can apply for citizenship?
The general rule is 8 years. Spouses and partners of Swedish citizens need 7 years with 5 years living together, refugees 7 years and stateless people 5 years.
How do I register for the society test?
Migrationsverket decides who should take the test and sends a letter. Only people with that letter can register with UHR, which will announce the next test dates and fee.
