Is there a working alone law in the Northwest Territories?
Yes. Section 33 of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations under the Safety Act covers working alone or at an isolated work site.
How often should a lone security guard check in?
The NWT regulation does not set a number. Your employer must set a frequency in the check-in procedure that fits the risks of your site.
Who do I report a workplace injury to in the NWT?
Tell your employer right away, see a health care provider if needed, and file a Worker's Report of Injury with the WSCC as soon as possible. Your employer must submit its report within three business days.
Can I refuse to patrol alone if it is dangerous?
Yes, if you have reason to believe there is an unusual danger. Report it to your supervisor at once; it is an offence for your employer to punish you for a refusal.
