What to know before the test
- The knowledge test has 40 multiple-choice questions and you need 75% to pass.
- You can take the test online, at a BMV Driver Examination Station or at select deputy registrar agencies, in eight languages.
- If you fail, wait one day to retest. There is no limit on attempts, but only one try per day.
- After passing, buy your TIPIC within 60 days or you must retake the vision screening and knowledge test.
- Teens must hold the TIPIC six months, take driver training (24 hours of class and 8 hours of driving) and log 50 hours with a parent, 10 at night.
