- You need 20/40 vision in at least one eye, with or without glasses.
- Learner permit holders must drive with a supervisor 21 or older in the front seat. In New York City and on Long Island, they may not drive from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Before the road test you need a 5-hour Pre-Licensing Course (or driver education), six months on the permit and 50 practice hours, 15 after sunset.
- Under the Zero Tolerance law, a driver under 21 with a BAC of .02 to .07 faces a six-month suspension.
