How this mock exam works
Each attempt draws 40 questions at random from all 93 questions for this test, so no two attempts are the same.
The official test has these parts:
- Content and context: 50–55% of the test
- Structure, elements and techniques: 25–30%
- Grammar, syntax and language conventions: 20–25%
At the end you see your score, every answer and its explanation. Your best score is saved in this browser, so you can try again until you pass comfortably.
What you will learn
- Describe the length, time limit, content areas, pass mark and retake rules of the CAEC Reading test
- Find stated details, main ideas and supporting evidence in workplace, everyday and literary texts
- Work out word meanings from context and explain figurative language
- Make inferences and draw conclusions from a text, a table or two texts together
- Identify text structures, text features and literary devices, and explain their effect
- Find and fix errors in grammar, punctuation and sentence structure
- Explain why a writer chooses a sentence style, such as a command, a short sentence or the passive voice
