The Alabama knowledge exam is the written test you pass to get a Stage I learner license from ALEA. It covers traffic laws, road signs and safe driving from the Alabama Driver License Manual. These practice questions cover Alabama's own rules first, then general US rules and signs.

What to know before the test
- You can get a Stage I learner license at age 15 after passing the written knowledge exam.
- Before Stage II, a teen needs either a signed form showing 50 hours of supervised driving or proof of an approved driver education course.
- Stage II drivers may not drive from midnight to 6 a.m. (with exceptions), may carry only one non-family passenger, and may not use handheld devices.
- The knowledge exam is offered in English and 11 other languages, and oral testing is available.
- Drivers under 21 are over the limit at a BAC of 0.02%; adults are over at 0.08%.
- Twelve or more points in two years leads to a license suspension.
