Frequently asked questions
How many questions are in the Dutch car theory exam?
50 questions count towards your result. There are also 2 test questions that do not count, and 2 practice questions before the exam starts.
What is the pass mark for the CBR theory exam?
You need at least 44 correct answers out of 50 scored questions. Our mock exam uses the same rule: 44 out of 50 in 30 minutes.
Is the theory exam still split into hazard perception, knowledge and insight?
No. That three-part format (25, 12 and 28 questions, each with its own pass mark) ended on 7 April 2025. The exam is now one part of 50 questions, so our mock exam is one part too.
Can I practise the hazard perception animations here?
No. The real exam shows short, silent animation clips of traffic situations, and we cannot copy those. Our questions test the same rules in text. Practise spotting hazards on real drives with your instructor or coach.
Can I take the Dutch theory exam in English?
Yes. The CBR offers the car theory exam in Dutch and English, with or without extra time. Some Dutch terms may still appear; the CBR lists them in its exam plan.
How long is my theory pass valid?
A pass is valid for 1.5 years (18 months) from the day you passed. You must pass the practical exam within that time.
