Ireland Security Guard Practice Test (PSA) 2026
To get a PSA security guard (guarding) licence in Ireland you need the QQI Level 4 award Security Guarding Skills (4N20604) or an equivalent. It is assessed by a theory exam and a skills demonstration, and you must pass both. These questions cover PSA licensing and the Irish law guards use every day.

What to know before the test
- Since 1 November 2022, a security guard (guarding) licence needs QQI Level 4 Minor award 4N20604 Security Guarding Skills, or an equivalent the PSA accepts.
- Door supervisors need QQI 4N20611 Door Security Skills instead.
- The award is assessed by a theory exam (50%) and a skills demonstration (50%). You must pass both.
- QQI grades are Pass 50–64%, Merit 65–79% and Distinction 80–100%.
- The PSA must refuse a licence to anyone under 18 or who is not a fit and proper person. A licence lasts 2 years unless a longer period is prescribed.
- A citizen's arrest is only lawful for an arrestable offence, and the person must be handed to the Gardaí as soon as practicable.
